Uni-taskers

If you watch Alton Brown or read his books, you know that his is not a fan of kitchen tools that only have one purpose. He says:

I still say -- banish the Uni-tasker. If it doesn't perform multiple functions, it doesn't belong in the kitchen (except for the fire extinguisher, of course).

I discovered this week that the grater now has another task to add. I have yet made it to the kitchen section to confirm this, but tell me if you notice much difference between the two items below? Can you guess what they each are?

item1.jpg item2.jpg

Give up? Item #1 is here. Item #2 is here.

Do you think even Alton would approve the multi-tasking since the items are so similar?

In the Parking Lot of Wal-Mart

Me: I wonder if this place will be a madhouse. Everyone coming to get last minute stuff before the 4th.

Grandma: Hmmmm....

Youngest: We are madhouse people.

Me and Grandma: LOL!!!

2,996

From D.Challener Roe at "2,996":

I hate that the limited resources of my brain are clogged with names like Bundy, Manson, Columbine and Al-Qaeda, but I almost never hear the names of their victims.

I hope that by having 2,996 of us write a tribute to these people that we will each learn about our victims. We will burn into our own brains the details of their lives and come to know more about them than we do about the monsters who took their lives. I can say that after doing my own research I will never forget the name of my victim.

I think of this a little bit like a giant wake, where we celebrate their lives and not the circumstances of their unfortunate deaths.

By taking the time and energy to remember them we can keep them alive in our own memories. We can keep them alive for as long as we refuse to forget them.

You can help remember here.

Hat tip to Dawn.

Bus Assaults

Jack from Texas Music starts:

After a recent SWAT training session, my team sergeant and I were standing around, discussing types of scenarios we should focus our training resources on.

"Bus assaults," I said.

Read on here. Jack is one of my new additions to my blog roll and I have enjoyed his blog. Yuo can check out his other great posts here.

I win!!!!

I win!!!!! From Shawn Lee about the Carnival of Recipes:

Next week the Carnival will be hosted by Trub. The Sediment of Life.: http://trub.blogspot.com. Trub gets the great honor of hosting our 100th anniversary celebration. Amy from Prochein Amy made the only suggestion for the anniversary - to submit your favorite recipe made from the Carnival - and since hers was the only one, she wins. (Yeah, Amy!) ;) If you remember, let us know whose recipe it was and any modifications you made. If no Carnival recipe springs to mind, feel free to just post your personal favorite recipe. The one that you look forward to making - and eating - yourself.

You can send recipes or links to recipe.carnival@gmail.com by noon CST on Saturday.

I have to dig up my favorite. Do you have one?

Feet and People

All of my shoes are worn out and I can't find a pair that I want in my price range. Because my shoes are worn out my feet hurt. And since my feet hurt, I am in a bad mood. Your feet make a difference if how you feel and do.

And then I realized that people at the bottom of the ladder at companies are like feet. You take care of them, then they will make your company run better. If lower ladder people are not happy, it puts the whole company in a bad mood.

Lesson of the day? Take care of your feet and your workers.

O Family, here we come!

Next week we leave my husband to himself while we visit family in Arkansas. It will be a nice vacation, but I don't know if I will survive without good internet access. I will have my laptop and my work phone has data that I can hook up, but looking at the coverage in Arkansas - yikes!

And maybe it will be a good thing. It will be a true vacation.

Oh ya, light blogging in the next week or so.

Anyone going to be around Beaver Lake the end of next week?

Office Politics

I dip my toes into the water of the Sea of Upper Management and I don't like the luke warm water. I do not like how the sea is full of fish who have blinders on, are concerned only in their interests and not the companies, and who are just plain stinky.

For personal reasons, to survive this sea I can not swim with the other fish. I must grow or periodically wear these. I don't see many fish with them and wonder if I will survive if I use them.

Feeling pretty

I do not like to fuss to much with my appearance and would prefer to make things simpler. But simple does not always make you feel pretty. And most women want to feel pretty at some time. Over the years I have noticed things that help me feel pretty. I like how my hair falls into my face and I have to brush it away. I like wearing long flowing skirts. Prom dresses and my wedding dress also did the trick.

Jewelry is good. Right after you get your haircut and the hair dresser has it all spiffy.

The most recent thing I have done to make myself feel pretty is having artificial nails put on. Usually my nails are short since I tear them off. With the nails on I find myself moving my hands different. My pinkie raises up more and not just when I am drinking out of a tea cup. I even enjoy just looking at them.

What make you gal's feel pretty?

New Header

Action shots of the girl's jumping into a pool. Can you tell which one does not like to get her head wet? You can see her peeking out of the water on the second shot.
