August Happines Challenge Day 5

My girls have learned to swim and are not afraid of the water. Since my anti-InLaws installed a pool this summer, they have had lots of practice when they visit on Fridays. I was able to see them in action yesterday and it was fun.

To all you Wii Peeps!!!

Nintendo is offering strap replacements for units shipping before early December. They have pictures of the difference shown here. It looks like they make the straps thicker to prevent them from breaking easily.

For the details on Nintendo's site check it out by clicking here. Have your serial number handy to see if your unit qualifies.

H/T to TG Daily.

Cross-posted here.

Happiness Challenge Day 7

Bedtime makes me happy. I love to sleep. Maybe it makes me even more happy than it did in the past since I have my CPAP machine. The other day I had to do without it. Man-O-man, did I miss it.

August Happiness Challenge Day 9

Reading blogs makes me happy. I love learning about other people. I love being a part of their lives without being intrusive. You know those kinds of shows that have 3 or 4 story lines. Like Soaps. Well, some blogs are like Soaps, some are Sitcoms and Comedy's, and some are Newscasts, Opinion Sections, well, you get the idea. But with my blogs, I get over 70 different story lines. Weeeee!!!!

(Thanks to Logtar for the inspiration for this post.)

August Happiness Challenge Day 10

In the past few months, I have been able to work at a different location that is not closer as far as milage, but takes a path that is against traffic. So instead of spending 1 hour each way driving, I only spend 40 minutes one way. And the drive is pleasant.

And since the girl's Day Care/School is on the way and I have 20 more minutes to spare, I can drop them off. I like doing that.

Makes me happy!

August Happiness Challenge Day 11

I know this should not make me happy, but I have found a new food adiction. Homemade ranch dressing made with sour cream and buttermilk instead of mayo and milk. It makes a huge difference. And it makes it a multi-tasker since it also thick enough to be a dip.

Oldest's Vision (AHC Day 12)

My Oldest needs a pair of glasses. Her vision was bad two years ago, but not enough to get glasses. When we took her in last week her vision is bad enough to need them for the classroom. She can wear them other times, but she does not have to.

She has a future of bad eyesight thanks to my genes. But with modern technology and advancement in eyewear, she will probably have it easier. This makes me happy.

Happiness Challenge Day 13

A few months ago a friend of mine mentioned that she was thinking about selling her dining room set since it was to big for her dinning area. I offered to buy it knowing that it would fit in mine. It is a good solid table. It is very large compared to our kitchen table.

It is now our primary dining space. It has enough room for us and the dinner items in the middle. And extra we don't use. Awhile back my parents came over for breakfast and we did not have to squeeze around the littler kitchen table.

It is great for crafting. The cat even likes resting on it until I shoo him away.

I guess you could say that the table makes me happy, but that is not the case. The way it makes me feel does. I enjoy the luxury of having elbow room. Of not having to figure out where to put stuff. Of having to say, "Pass the cheese, please" and watching it go through several peoples hands. Silly, huh? But I love it!

August Happiness Challenge Day 14

I am behind on my Happiness Challenge posts, but I will get caught up. I am on a major decluttering mission to make room for a new dresser and bed frame (to go with this). I have used our bedroom as the dumping ground for our junk. But no longer. Now it is the lofts turn!!! hehehehe...

I am throwing out lots of stuff and putting things aside to donate. I don't mind the work so much since there is something on the way. That makes me happy.

New Blog Design

I am getting ready for Football Season starting with a Texas themed blog redo. I am still in the process of making it better, but I did not want to wait any longer. So if you are RSS'ing my site, wait to look at it later. I will let you know when it is done all the way.

Last season I slacked off a little with my game day related posts, but I am not going to this year. I may even try some live blogging!

And...... blog redo's make me happy!!!

Another 1st (AHC Day 22)

My Oldest has the eyesight genes from my side of the family and has started the path earlier than I did. Her new glasses came in yesterday and I may be more excited about them than she is. I can remember how great it was to get my glasses or a new prescription. I could see all the leaves on the trees. I could read signs. It was amazing. It made me happy!

August Happiness Challenge Day 26

Two weeks ago I was in the neighborhood of Gradual Dazzle. We met for coffee at Starbucks and had a grand ol' time. What I enjoy about blogging is that meeting in person is really not meeting for the first time. Or it doesn't feel like it. I was very comfortable with her and her kids.

Meeting one of my favorite bloggers makes me happy!!!!

August Happiness Challenge Day 27 and 28

Day 27: Good day at work celebrating a friends birthday. We decorated her office and took her to lunch.

Day 28: I received a compliment today. We were talking about planning work parties to celebrate work anniversaries or retirements. I mentioned that I would be at my company 10 years in January. My co-worker (and friend) said that I needed to plan my own party 'cause I do good ones.

PreGame Summary: Arkansas State University

Presenting this week's PreGame Summary for the Novices. Texas plays Arkansas State in Austin.

I could not find much information on ASU, but I did find a "Content Producer" on AssociatedContent.com that posted several articles related to the school. I emailed him and he replied with answers to all my questions. Matt is working on his Journalism degree and I would not do justice to his writing skills by putting it in my words, so I am going to quote him directly. His writing will be in italics. Thanks, Matt, for your help and I hope you can come to our tailgate.

Here is the summary:

Mascot:
Indians

Colors:
Scarlet and black

Location:
Jonesboro, AR.

Main Rival:
"Our main rival is the University of Memphis which is just across the mighty Mississippi River about an hour from Jonesboro. When the series first started it became known as the "Paint Bucket Bowl" because students from the winning team would show up on the losing school's campus and paint a section of it. That hasn't been done for some time though.

Last year, after losing to Memphis several times in a row, the rivalry was brought back in a big way. We went to Memphis and led most of the game - Memphis jumped ahead on a flea flicker, and we get the ball back on our own 48 yard line with 6 seconds left trailing by three. Our quarterback Corey Leonard drops back, throws the ball up for grabs and after about 70 yards and what seemed like a lifetime later the ball came down in the hands of one of our receivers. The meeting previous to that, Memphis came to Jonesboro ranked in the top 25. We led most of the game and had them on the wire before a sold out Indian Stadium crowd, the largest ever. In the last two minutes, Memphis scored three touchdowns and won. They did fall out of the top 25 following that game, though, which I personally consider a moral victory :)

You could also say that the University of Arkansas is our rival. Arkansas has a policy of not scheduling in-state opponents in any sport - Arkansas and ASU are the only two Division 1-A football teams in Arkansas and are two of only four division 1 schools in the state. The only time ASU and Arkansas have ever met is in post-season tournaments, most recently in the 2005 WNIT where our 1,000 seat Convocation Center arena in Jonesboro sold out to watch women's basketball. The two schools have never met in football - ASU fans want this game really bad and Arkansas fans seem afraid that if we play, they'll lose and it will hurt their fan base (which is pretty well state-wide - Arkansans support the Razorbacks in just about every corner of the state)." - Matt

Unique Tradions:
"As for traditions, those are kind of going out the window. If you haven't heard, ASU was targeted by the NCAA for having a "hostile and abusive" Native American mascot and has all but decided (it will become official next month when the board of trustees rubber stamps it) to change the mascot. The mascot will be determined over the course of the coming months.

We still have the Indian Family, which is comprised of three students in Native American dress who watch the game from the sidelines and lead some student activities. We also have a spirit character named Red who has won about a bazillion mascot awards over the past two years." - Matt

Misc:
"One of our graduate school alumni who didn't play here but will be of note to you Texas folks is Blinn JC coach Brad Franchione, the son of Texas A&M coach Dennis Franchione.

Famous Players:
As for famous players, we have had quite a few NFL'ers for a team our size over the years. The most notable is Bill Bergey, who played for the Bengals and the Eagles in the 1970s and was instrumental in getting the Eagles to Super Bowl XV. In his time he was the highest paid defensive player in the NFL. Also, Ray Brown who retired in 2006 was the oldest player to start a playoff game when he was 43 - he played in the league for 20 years." - Matt

Spread:
-37 on Texas

How they have been playing:
Matt's take on their offense is here.

What we have to watch for:
Per the hubby, "If we don't beat them, this will be a worse season than I thought."
