Game 10: Texas 36, Oklahoma State 10

This was a good day. The weather was just right minus some misting. Good conversation with friends. And we won. Luckily we played well from the beginning with only a few scary parts.

This game Texas honored our Veterans. They made a little bit about Frank Denius. He has contributed his time and money to the University of Texas, but before that, he contributed much to our country. You can read more about him here.

In my search for more information about Frank, I found some interesting links:

About new construction at Memorial Stadium is here.

And then there's 79-year-old Austin lawyer Frank Denius.

Not only has the 1949 Texas graduate attended every Longhorns game this year, he's been to all but three practices and is the only person not affiliated with the school allowed to do so. Of course, there might be some pressure to appear when the practice facility is named "Frank Denius Field" -- an honor for his unshakable devotion.

Turns out he's been showing up for decades and still gets Christmas cards from members of the '63 and '69 national championship teams.

Not that he's bragging, but Denius -- whose white SUV is tattooed with a burnt-orange stripe and whose house features a life-size Bevo (Texas' steer mascot) engraved into a window -- also received an honorary letter from Royal that hangs in his law office."

Game 9: Texas 35, Texas Tech 31

We usually don't go to a Texas game if it is in Lubbuck. It is the arm pit of America. But I was very surprised that my husband wanted to take the girls to the Fright Fest at Six Flags while the game would be on.

While we were at Six Flags I checked the score on my crack-berry. I chose not to share the score with my husband since we were losing until the 4th quarter. Didn't want to ruin it.

We had fun despite the fact that Six Flags was a mad house. We chose rides with short(er) lines. We had fun and the girls were wore out and actually asked to go home. WHAT?!?!??!?!

Game 8: Texas 22, Nebraska 20

We were unable to make the trip to Nebraska and watched the game from home. Sorta. First TIVO did not perform it's job and taped the game on a station we do not get. So when my husband went to watch the game and be able to forward through the comercials, he realized he missed it.

Then the game did not go so well. Even though Texas won - not good. We are not allowed to the say the name of the Offensive Cordinator. He is the reason the score was so close and we almost lost.

The girls ended up staying with the anti-Inlaws since it was in the plans. Friday night we went to dinner. Saturday we lazed around and enjoyed a quiet day (except for the game part). I ended up reading two books, resting, and doing minor cleaning. Very nice.

Game 7: Texas 63, Baylor 31

After the first quarter, Texas stepped it up and played like it should. First quarter? Where did Texas go? Not sure what happened, except I heard on the after game show that Baylor changed it's offense to something Texas had not practiced the last week. Thankfully they came back and the game went as expected.

This game was extra fun for me since we had some friends from my church go with us. They came to our tailgates and hung out. I know a guy who hawks the seats behind us, so we grabbed those up. Great fun!

While we were at the game, my parents watch the girls. But we added some spice to game. Our friends brought their two boys over since they could not find anyone to watch them. My great parents agreed to it and had a 7 yr, 6 yr, and two 5 yr olds for the day. Two boys and two girls. And they survived.

Thanks Mom and Dad! You helped us have a great game!

My Silly Hat

I found a crochet pattern for a cowboy hat and asked begged my Mom to make it for me. I have worn it every game this year with lots of smiles and compliments. My favorite was "It looks very domesticated!"

Game 6: Texas 28, Oklahoma 10

Man, Oooooo, Man! Was this a good day!!!

We started our very early since hubby couldn't sleep anyway. Out the door at 6 am, parked by 7am. First in the parking lot. Found out that you needed reservations to park at the Church. Thankfully they had a spot open. We got their number for next year so we can reserve our space. (Whew!)

We stopped by McDonald's for breakfast and then headed for the Fair Grounds. We were the first through with Game tickets, since the ticket ladies wanted to check it out. This year the tickets were not rectangle, but had the top cut in the shape of the Cowboy Hat trophy.

We had a chance to visit with friends, get a corney dog and look at the new cars. Nothing major, just a little disappointed in the leg space on the Chevy Aveo.

The game? The first half was horrible. Our Offensive Coordinator was making VERY bad calls and OU was beating us. My husband said that if it didn't get better in the second half, he would wait for me in the car. He couldn't watch it. Second half? Like night and day. We wupped them. The score would have been higher if we played like this the whole game. And we didn't leave.

I noticed Texas was hitting hard. OU made lots of mistakes. We had 5 interceptions, which is very unusual against OU.

After the game we enjoyed visiting again and headed to Hooter's for dinner. Love their buffalo sauce. And this Hooters made their super hot like it should be.

Here are some pictures of before the game and during.

With the game being in a neutral location, they split the stadium in half at the 50 yard line. It is really neat to see the split of colors and to watch how the stands change during the game. See links below:

Today is the Texas/OU game at the Cotton Bowl. Huge game, huge rivalry and it will be a big deal if we lose. (fingers crossed) Please don't lose, please don't lose, please don't lose.......

Game 5: Texas 56, Sam Houston State 3

One of my friends brought her husband, son and his friends to their first football game. I love showing people the traditions, greeting the team, and all that goes along with our fun.

The game itself was nothing exciting since Texas is way better than Sam Houston State. By the fourth quarter we had walk-on's on the field. It is nice for them to get a chance to play.

The weather was nice and since not many people showed up we got to spread out a little and sit on the row behind us. Then we could put up our feet and get as comfortable as you can on a metal seat.

Next week will be exciting. We play OU at the Cotton Bowl. A very big rival game. Should be interesting.....

Game 4: Texas 37, Iowa State 14

Pre-game was good. Same old good time.

The game was pretty good. No emotional rollercoasters. The weather was more interesting. The morning started out cool and cloudy, but by game time is was sunny and hot. About 3rd quarter the announcer warned us of a storm coming and everyone cheered. We wanted to be cool! With about 15 minutes left in the game, they asked everyone to take cover since lightning was sighted on campus. We ended up leaving and heading out to dinner. They started the game back up about 1 hour and 15 minutes later, so we were able to listen to the last 7 minutes on the radio.

Not much blogging fodder, huh?

GAME 3: Texas 52, Rice 7

We watched this game from home since my husband did not have enough vacation days (new job) to make the trip reasonable. Ya, we are die hards, but, then you take into consideration that the next time the cable company could make it to our house was on Sunday between 8 am and 11 am, and we were without cable 3 weeks at that point, we were staying home. (How is that for a run on sentence?)

The game was enjoyable and my 5 year old daughter made the best comment while we were eating dinner and watching.

"I can't believe you are not at that game."

Game 2: Texas vs. Ohio - I am not posting the score in the title.

Before the game was great. We were able to show Texas hospitality to the Ohio State fans, despite what happened last year. (Previous posts here and here.) We invited many to join our tailgate. Even some guys from New York joined us. They travel to one big college game a year. They commented on our friendliness. But the best part was waiting to get some yummy brisket. Behind me were some Ohio State fans. Of course, I am going to put my wording into it, but the girl said something like this:

If they came around our tailgate we would be yelling "F*CK TEXAS!", but they are inviting us in for beer and food. This is great, but it would never happen in Ohio.

During the game: Not good. (We lost 24 to 7.)

After the game: Very silent drive home.

Getting ready for Ohio State

This weekend we play Ohio State, who is ranked #1. We are ranked #2. It will be a good game.

Still no internet connection at home and work is to crazy to get caught up. I don't know how long I can survive without internet. Thankfully we are at my Mom's.

More later since I need to get a good nights rest before tomorrow. The game is at 7pm, so the day will be very long.

Game 1: Texas beats North Texas, 56 to 7

I ended up missing the pre-game stuff since a friend who was getting tickets from us could not find parking. We now have a new rule. If anyone is meeting us for tickets, they have to come at least 4 hours before game time. It gets way to crowded and a madhouse. Plus you miss out on all the tailgating.

We were able to see the new video display.

Fans of the 2005 NCAA National Champion Longhorns will see incredible, high-resolution, crystal clear, live video and replays on a new ProStar® display with an active area approximately 55 feet high by 134 feet wide (Pure Pixel® resolution of 848 pixels by 2,064 pixels). The physical pixel resolution will exceed the 720p high-definition television standard. The end zone display will offer complete flexibility, with the capability to show one large single video image; multiple video images; and a combination of live or recorded video with real time scores and stats, out of town game information, sponsors' messages, graphics and animation. Overall dimensions of the end zone scoreboard, which includes a camera platform and an identification panel complete with giant longhorns, are approximately 81 feet high by 136 feet wide.

My comments? WOW! This thing is huge. Next month it is supposed to be in full screen (this week they only used half for the replays and game shots). I can't wait.

This game is one of the top 5 hottests games. Even with sunscreen we are burned. We sweated it off in the first 30 minutes. The heat was also very distracting to watching the game, but other than that, it was a fun one. Between the 5 of us who went out to dinner, we drank about 4 big pitchers of tea.

Oh ya, it was fun sharing Rose Bowl stories with everyone. One of my friends said it was the most fun she has ever had with her clothes on. I am using that one.

Tomight we will relax at our hotel, maybe go out for a late dinner, and sleep in tomorrow.

It's getting closer

Media Guide? Check!

New category for my blog? Season 2006, check!

Tickets? Check! Click the image below for a better view of the tickets....

This year they make a neat image when they are all together. Notice how they have the TEXAS flags across the back? Very neat!

(oh ya, I am happy to get the tickets! So this post meets the requirements of the August Happiness Challenge.)

We are on the cover of the Texas Media Guide

The Univeristy of Texas media guide came in the mail today. It is much smaller due to new NCAA limitations.

This year it has cool halograms on both the front and the back cover. On the front there is a picture of the stadium and you can see out seats. And if it was taken in the last 6 years, then we are in the picture. Maybe a spec, but still!

I took this picture at an angle to get the halogram. The rest of the cover is in the extended entry.

This also counts for my August Happiness Challenge entry, since getting the media guide is cool.
