Game 5: Texas 56, Sam Houston State 3

One of my friends brought her husband, son and his friends to their first football game. I love showing people the traditions, greeting the team, and all that goes along with our fun.

The game itself was nothing exciting since Texas is way better than Sam Houston State. By the fourth quarter we had walk-on's on the field. It is nice for them to get a chance to play.

The weather was nice and since not many people showed up we got to spread out a little and sit on the row behind us. Then we could put up our feet and get as comfortable as you can on a metal seat.

Next week will be exciting. We play OU at the Cotton Bowl. A very big rival game. Should be interesting.....

Me stressed?

Tomorrow is go-live for the project I have been working on since May. My jaw has been clenched most of the time since last Friday. I don't really notice until I move my jaw. I am stressed just a wee bit. Maybe I need a horse bit!

Mostly Successful Go Live

Go Live was good. There will still be some follow up work to "clean up" what we did not get done in time. But our main goal was achieved. And it could have gone worse.

Tomorrow I have a comp day. So I will rest, take the girls into school, pick them up and meet our friends for dinner. Our friends will be going with us to the Texas/OU game on Saturday.

My mood in relation to my project? Tentative happiness. Mostly since the problems we may have will be minor. All is well, but it could be better, and it could be worse. How is that for vagueness?

My jaw doesn't hurt as much either...

Game 6: Texas 28, Oklahoma 10

Man, Oooooo, Man! Was this a good day!!!

We started our very early since hubby couldn't sleep anyway. Out the door at 6 am, parked by 7am. First in the parking lot. Found out that you needed reservations to park at the Church. Thankfully they had a spot open. We got their number for next year so we can reserve our space. (Whew!)

We stopped by McDonald's for breakfast and then headed for the Fair Grounds. We were the first through with Game tickets, since the ticket ladies wanted to check it out. This year the tickets were not rectangle, but had the top cut in the shape of the Cowboy Hat trophy.

We had a chance to visit with friends, get a corney dog and look at the new cars. Nothing major, just a little disappointed in the leg space on the Chevy Aveo.

The game? The first half was horrible. Our Offensive Coordinator was making VERY bad calls and OU was beating us. My husband said that if it didn't get better in the second half, he would wait for me in the car. He couldn't watch it. Second half? Like night and day. We wupped them. The score would have been higher if we played like this the whole game. And we didn't leave.

I noticed Texas was hitting hard. OU made lots of mistakes. We had 5 interceptions, which is very unusual against OU.

After the game we enjoyed visiting again and headed to Hooter's for dinner. Love their buffalo sauce. And this Hooters made their super hot like it should be.

Here are some pictures of before the game and during.

With the game being in a neutral location, they split the stadium in half at the 50 yard line. It is really neat to see the split of colors and to watch how the stands change during the game. See links below:

My Silly Hat

I found a crochet pattern for a cowboy hat and asked begged my Mom to make it for me. I have worn it every game this year with lots of smiles and compliments. My favorite was "It looks very domesticated!"

Where do you want to eat?

Have you ever noticed when it comes time to figure out where to go to eat, no one really knows what they want? But when someone suggests something, they know they don't want it. But when you ask them what they do want, they still don't know? I think it is partly because no one wants to be responsible for picking if someone doesn't like it. Or they don't want their choice to be shot down.

That is how I can be about politics. Mostly, I can't flat out tell you what I believe in the political arena. But if someone brings stuff up, then I can tell them I don't want that. "Then what do you suggest?" No idea. Well, maybe no idea that I want responsibility for. And what if you don't like my idea or beliefs? What if you shoot it down? I might cry!

With the blogosphere, that has changed somewhat. Because I read more about politics, not just what is in the media, I get a different view point. More often than not, I get both sides. I can take what I read and pick out of it what I agree with and what I don't. And with that I build my beliefs and form my opinions.

Game 7: Texas 63, Baylor 31

After the first quarter, Texas stepped it up and played like it should. First quarter? Where did Texas go? Not sure what happened, except I heard on the after game show that Baylor changed it's offense to something Texas had not practiced the last week. Thankfully they came back and the game went as expected.

This game was extra fun for me since we had some friends from my church go with us. They came to our tailgates and hung out. I know a guy who hawks the seats behind us, so we grabbed those up. Great fun!

While we were at the game, my parents watch the girls. But we added some spice to game. Our friends brought their two boys over since they could not find anyone to watch them. My great parents agreed to it and had a 7 yr, 6 yr, and two 5 yr olds for the day. Two boys and two girls. And they survived.

Thanks Mom and Dad! You helped us have a great game!

Game 8: Texas 22, Nebraska 20

We were unable to make the trip to Nebraska and watched the game from home. Sorta. First TIVO did not perform it's job and taped the game on a station we do not get. So when my husband went to watch the game and be able to forward through the comercials, he realized he missed it.

Then the game did not go so well. Even though Texas won - not good. We are not allowed to the say the name of the Offensive Cordinator. He is the reason the score was so close and we almost lost.

The girls ended up staying with the anti-Inlaws since it was in the plans. Friday night we went to dinner. Saturday we lazed around and enjoyed a quiet day (except for the game part). I ended up reading two books, resting, and doing minor cleaning. Very nice.

Be prepared

GruntDoc posted an article about Americans not being prepared for disaster.

Unless you are in an area where disasters hits frequently (like Bou and VW), you don't really think about this stuff. No biggie. But it doesn't hurt to be prepared. So if you like me and have never really looked into being prepared, I am going to help you out a bit. Below are links to sites that list what to put in a "disaster kit". Based on what you should put in it, we should call it a disaster bin, trunk, or WBS (Whole Bunch o' Stuff).

Homeland Security

National Hurricane Center

Red Cross

FEMA

One of my friends at work has an Emergency Envelope in each of his cars. He prepared these in response to 9/11 and the possibility of an attack on the city. I suppose the Dallas/Fort Worth area could be a prime target. The envelope includes emergency contacts, a meeting place with maps outlining various courses out of town, and some extra cash. They have picked a relative away from town so that if cell phones don't work they all know where to call to check in. And they all have an understanding that no matter what they do not come back for each other, but head straight for the designated meeting point. He has instructions very clear and consise. I don't think I will go to the extreme of documenting all of it, but I may put together a "cheat sheet" with contact numbers and addresses. Again, could not hurt....

Just talking....

Youngest: B. said that Halloween is the devil's birthday.

Me: OOOOOHHHHH, no. It's not. ( thinking to myself "What is the history of Halloween? Think, think, think.....)

Youngest: It is an evil day.

Me: Nooooooo, it isn't. It is a day to dress up and trick or treat for candy. (Oh wait, we go to a Fall Festival) Or you can go to a Fall Festival and get candy there.

Youngest: That is what B. said. It is an evil day.

Me: Who are you going to believe? Me or B?

Youngest: Both.

As I laughed, I thought "How can you be prepared for that?"

What's up with dat?

I am a fan of Keith Urban. His music and lyrics are great. He is a very positive singer and good looking to boot.

Keith Urban is one of my "friends" on myspace.com. Ya, ya, I have a space on myspace! Just trying to be hip and keep up with the times. Plus, it helped me to find a few high school buddies. But about Keith being my "friend".....

It is a farce! You know those websites that offer you a free Ipod if you sign up for 20 offers and get 20 friends to do the same? Ya, those scams. Well, now Keith Urban is part of it!!! "He" sent me an invite to one of his concerts and said that if I was one of the first 500 to accept, I would get free tickets. Ya, after I do 20 offers!!!! Jeez.

And the plot thickens even more... How can he send me an invite if he is in rehab? I guess he needs the money from the offer scams to pay for rehab.... Now I have to decide if I am going to take him off my friend list on myspace.com.

Update: Another Keith fan left a comment saying the Keith Urban does not have a myspace account. The plot thickens! Need to check into this more...

Game 9: Texas 35, Texas Tech 31

We usually don't go to a Texas game if it is in Lubbuck. It is the arm pit of America. But I was very surprised that my husband wanted to take the girls to the Fright Fest at Six Flags while the game would be on.

While we were at Six Flags I checked the score on my crack-berry. I chose not to share the score with my husband since we were losing until the 4th quarter. Didn't want to ruin it.

We had fun despite the fact that Six Flags was a mad house. We chose rides with short(er) lines. We had fun and the girls were wore out and actually asked to go home. WHAT?!?!??!?!

Caddo Lake Barge

Even though Youngest would ride on every ride she could, at least once, her height can be restrictive. In front of each ride is a stand for your kids to stand by to see if they are tall enough. As lame as a ride can be, I still make sure I am very enthusiastic when Youngest is tall enough to ride. Actually I am enthusiastic about most things. Youngest stood in front of the stand for the Caddo Lake Barge ride and just smiled when we anounced she was tall enough to ride. Then she led us through the line with a little "La-ti-da - I am so cool" walk. Priceless.
