1st game, Sunday August 31st vs. New Mexico State @ Austin. Texas wins 66 - 7

First quarter was scary. I was nervous that we were back on the roller coaster ride again. But after they got out of that funk, it was back to good. The brought in Vince Young 3rd quarter and he was great. But now everyone will be grumbling when Mock does bad to bring in Young. They will not keeping in mind that he was playing against a very tired and less than average team. That is what ruined Chris. I hope that Mack Brown and staff do all that they can to avoid any quarterback controversy. I do not understand people booing players on their own team, like they did Chris Simms. I do not understand how people could say that Applewhite was better than Simms, when he made bad plays all the time. I bet that Applewhite fans are democrats. They are blind or choose not to see the bad in a President who lies. They choose not see the bad in a Police chief who takes bribes, does not obey direct orders, had a personal driver on staff despite budget and salary cuts. They choose not to see a quarterback who also can throw interceptions, has a weak arm, and may have stats worse than the other. (I am by no means a stats person, I could not even tell you what the quarterback rating was based on.) But when it came down to it, Simms had to always know in the back of his mind that he did not have the full support of the majority of Texas fans, had to know that he would/could be pulled at any mistake to be replace. I don't care how iron-clad you are, that has to affect you in some way, especially when you are a young college student. He was never given a chance by many because they felt he had a silver spoon in his mouth. They just assumed he had an easy ride. Just like all the democrats are assuming the Dallas police chief was fired because of race. Both are quite the opposite. Chris probably had to work hard his whole life to get around his name. Bolton had it easy and was given more opportunities because he was black. Take away the family name and the color and you would have two totally different situations.

Upside Down Horns

I have had a longhorn sticker on my cars for over 5 years. Only within the last 2 months have I had "kids" drive by and give me the upside down horns. One group even drove next to me for about a quarter of a mile hanging out the windows. I have very mixed emotions about this. Part of me wants to flick them off. But then I don't want to sink to thier level. I think it will only get worse as Texas continues to do well. And even more so when we win the Big 12 Championship.

Bye Week

This is our last bye week until the end of November. We have lots of errands to run since we will be out every weekend. Called this week to get away game tickets, since we did not buy them with our season tickets. That was fun cause I got a say in where our tickets were. For the OSU game he wanted to put us on the 2nd row, but I thought that would not be a good idea since they stick us in the inzone and with lower seats it would be even harder to see. At Baylor, he said we would be in a section with no one in front of us. That will be cool. The others I did not have any idea about the stadiums or we did not have a choice. I am really glad to have tickets with all the other Longhorns. I could just see us getting tickets from a scalper and being right in the middle of fans from the other team. Not a good idea since we are loud and that could mean trouble.

Hyper-sensitivity

Listening yesterday to ESPN and my husband's reactions makes me wonder something. Does the media make negative comments about Texas more than other teams? Especially the others in the top 10? Is the hubby hyper-sensitive since he is such a die hard fan? I am not sure that is the case. I seem to hear more negative from media shows than positive. Do they do the same to other teams? Do I not notice since I don't pay attention to any others? I need to pay attention to that more and write more later.

Top 10 Reasons I hate for Texas to lose.

10. The game is not fun.

9. I get mad at people for leaving early.

8. My husband starts cussing.

7. I have to really pay attention to the game and can't really chit chat with my friend.

6. After the game, my husband walks really fast and I almost have to run to keep up with him. (At 6 foot 9, he can walk fast.)

5. After the game, I am scared a fan from the other team will smart off to my husband. Did I mention he is 6 ' 9"? (He has no fear.)

4. After the game, we can not watch ESPN or anything that may mention Texas.

3. After the game, my husband does not really want to talk. And that mean almost no talk.

2. After the game, we usually don't stop anywhere. For anything. We drive staight home.

1. After the game, we don't stop anywhere. Or go out to dinner. We drive straight home, even if it is 8 hours away.

We lost.

2nd game: Texas vs. Arkansas 38-28

This game was very embarrasing. We should not have lost. It seemed like we were a high school team playing and college team. We never tackled the Arkansas quarterback. It was like he had a force field around him. We had a really good run and the end of the half. Three passes and bam a touchdown. Did we ever do it again? No. Did we try? maybe, but I couldn't tell. Most the people were grumbling to fire our Offensive Coordinator. If we are supposed to have some of the most talented players, why did we not play better than that? My guess it that they are right, it might be the coaching. I can't see the players deciding on thier own to not blitz the quarterback, to give him the halo.

So going back to my post about the media. Maybe they were right to dog us.
