Year of the Declutterer

For several years I have known I needed to get rid of clutter, but it never was that important. As the girls get older with friends to visit and my stronger desire to entertain, it is important. And maybe getting a dog. (That is another post.)

So I started before Christmas and I have been working on it slowly. My Anti-MIL has a dumpster and I am taking advantage of it. I have also made several trips to the dump.

It will probably take me until the rest of the year since I have so much stuff collected. I know it is part of my military raising. Your stuff made a house feel like a home. It is a slow process to change your way of thinking.

I am inspired by the Flylady.

FlyLady will help you declutter your house using Hot Spot Fire Drills and the 27-Fling Boogie. If the thought of decluttering your home is overwhelming - don't worry - Flylady has been there and knows what you are going through! In fact, FlyLady still has her own "dungeon" of clutter that she is working on!

I have read her book and received her emails. She talks about taking baby steps, but for the last 2 years I have been taking centeped steps.

Also inspired by the show Clean House and the idea of attaching emotions to objects. The host, Niecy, also has the no nonsense attitude of the FlyLady. Plus, the show makes me feel better because my house is not as bad at others. It is all relative. More here.

This site has good tips, but some of the poster and commenters are like uber-anti-stuff-like.
