Not enough ZZZZ's

For the last three months, I have been snoring enough to keep my husband and myself up. I tried all the over the counter stuff. The strips on the nose, sprays, gargles, you name it. I thought I was better after my husband did not knudge me and I was able to sleep in our bed. But after a few days, his blood shot eyes and bad mood meant he was just being nice. I was still snoring.

Of course I googled it. Weight gain is a cause, but I did not think it was solely that since I have slowly gained it over the last year, not sudden like. Deviated septum? Nah. Sleep apnea? Maybe, but not sure. I just knew I needed some outside help since I was snoring while sitting up. I can feel the vibrations in the back of my throat. I can even make it happen now if I relax enough and breath hard enough. So I made an appointment with the doc.

And she sent me for a sleep study test. They hooked me up to a bunch of wires, sensors, and watched me sleep. The doctor had orders a split test so that if I had a very bad case of apnea, they would wake me up and fit me for one of the nose devices. Luckily, I was not that bad, but she mentioned that I would be back. They are not allowed to discuss the results with me. I am to discuss it with my doctor.

I did learn some things that I had not read online. There are 88 known sleep disorders that they can test for. Over the long term sleep apnea can cause high blood pressure and diabeties.

If I do not hear from my doctor by Tuesday of this week, I am going to call. It seems that this is all just getting worse for me. I could sleep all day and would if I did not have things to do. I don't have much energy and when I do it does not last for very long. I am so tired during the day and wish I could take a nap. It is affecting my work, my house, and my overall well being. I am so happy that I carpool since I have someone to keep me awake. (Thanks, AJ!)

I am sure that sleeping on a couch does not help, but even on the nights that I don't, I still have such a hard time waking up. Going to bed early does not make a difference.

The sleep clinic gave me additional sites to look at and based on that reading and a comment from the nurse, I think it may not be sleep apnea. She mentioned that the closure of the throat happens at the base with apnea. I feel the restriction of the airway at the top. So if the sleep apnea devices do not work, then the next step is surgury to remove tonsils and excess tissues.

Either way, I just want it fixed. I need my sleep. So cross your fingers and send "ZZZZZ" thoughts my way.
